Prommum staged a fashion show at the Tollgate Hotel in Blurton. The social enterprise was set up by the parenting charity Gingerbread to try and address the rising costs of proms for parents. It offers a clothing hire service for all prom and party occasions, recycling pre-owned dresses and suits as well as selling online to raise cash to buy new outfits. RELATED CONTENT
Project worker Sharon Condliffe said volunteers, who have all been helped by Longton-based Gingerbread, are developing key business skills and opening up employment opportunities. She said: "We had a splendid night and it went really well, with a fantastic turnout. "We had a professional photographer, Deborah Stott of Stott Photography, who gave her time and took photos of the evening free of charge, and Nicola Hall and Amanda Hopkins of Salon Phoenix did the models' hair and make-up, also free of charge." To support the venture, contact The Gingerbread Centre, in Longton, on 01782 344740, or email [email protected]. They have taken on a unit in the Phoenix Works in Longton and as well as a wide range of hairdressing services, the business offers beauty and complementary therapies. Nicky, pictured right, said: "This is a Grade II listed building and it is a fantastic place to work. "After running a salon in Lightwood I took a break to have children and so went mobile. "But things were getting so busy I decided to come back to a premises and with Rachel we opened Salon Phoenix. "We offer all aspects of hairdressing and we have a beautician. But we also offer services such as hypnotherapy, reiki and angel card readings. "This is quite a big unit so we wanted to utilise it and make best use of the space." In the future, Nicky and Rachel, left, intend to stage tutorial sessions in hair, beauty and make-up as well as hosting open nights.
